Katharine McKerrell is a young British Asian living in Oban, Argyll. She came to the town of Oban in 2009 and since then she has given her time to help everyone and everything within her community. She is part of the amazing team who launched the widely publicised community campaign to save Oban's cinema and she is now a Director and charity Trustee of the Oban Phoenix Cinema. She single handedly sought out and persuaded a-list celebrities to become patrons of the cinema and brought the community's struggle to save the cinema to the nations attention through BBC and STV news coverage. She volunteers as a drug and alcohol dependency councillor with Encompass. She also fosters dogs which were due to be euthanised due to behavioural problems and helps rehabilitate them into loving family pets. She gives all her spare time to her community and even manages to hold down a full time job as a training solicitor as well. She has been an inspiration to her community and family. She truly deserves to be part of the team as she will show the billions of viewers that every single person can do little things that make a big difference to others. It's time to highlight that the little people who make a local impact can actually be a shining example to the world - just like the Olympic torch.I am training to be a volunteer addiction counsellor for Encompass.
