Carrying the Flame through
Carrying the Flame on
Karen's nomination story

I believe my wife karen should carry the olympic flame because over the last year she has given absolutely everything to starting up and running her charity Hana's Gift in memory of her daughter Hana who was sadly stillborn in 2006. Karens aim through hanasgift is to raise funds to help finance memorials, plaques and headstones for parents and families who suffer the heart breaking loss of a baby either through late miscarriage, stillbirth or within the first year of life. She has raised thousands of pounds through events such as sponsored walks, quiz nights, clairvoyance evenings, fetes and various online events and sales, she works tirelessly to raise funds aswell as looking after our two young children and she has built up a large and close circle of friends including all the people she has helped so far who i know are eternally grateful for being able to have a memorial for their baby that otherwise they may never have been able to afford. I think her longing to help other people who have suffered this loss while at the same time living with the pain of losing Hana makes her so special and she is such an inspiration the way she does all this without a single thought for herself or asking anything in return. She is my hero and i think her work with hanasgift sums up the very meaning of 'going the extra mile'. Thank you, Paul Tye.
