Karen is inspirational in many ways. In her work she is a caring, diligent doctor who educates and inspires the doctors of tomorrow. In her spare time she devotes herself to the mountain rescue team and many other community activities. She also tirelessly fundraises for many good causes, in particular Lamm Hospital in Bangladesh where she also spends her holidays doing volunteer work. She has literally changed the lives of many people at home and abroad. Added to that she is a devoted mother and a loyal friend who always makes time for people and tackles new challenges with enthusiasm. She even managed to train me to run a half marathon - for charity of course! But what is most amazing is that in recent years Karen has fought her own battle against serious illness, undergoing major surgery and other gruelling treatments. But with typical resilliance and positive thinking she has fought her way back to fitness and carried on with her work, charity work and her many other interests. I am proud to have her as a friend and colleague. She embodies the true Olympic spirit. Please give her her chance to shine.
