Kajol's nomination story

Kajol, is 15 year old young person who has been an extremley dedicated and enthusiastic, creative producer for Under The Town festival, a music, arts and fashion festival organised by young people for young people with Blackpool Arts Service The event was part of Blaze NW for the Cultural Olympics. Funded through Arts Council England, the Legacy Trust and Blackpool Council and the young people's own fundraising.

Since February 2011, Kajol has been one fifth of a team of young people working towards their Gold Arts Award. Kajol and her team decided they wanted to produce a music and arts festival for their generation in Blackpool. This event would form part of the Blaze programme.

Kajol's role in the festival was Music Director and she confidently contacted North West bands and acoustic acts to play at the festival. Due to high demand, Kajol had to make difficult decisions about the festival's music line up , dealt with billing issues. She also co-ordinated the band equipment get in and get out and presented on stage to a crowd of over 300 young people.

Kajol has worked tirelessly on making the festival the success it was, working with the team to make all the decisions on branding, venue, ticketing and lots more. She has inspired lots of other young people in Blackpool to take part in future cultural events and get involved. She is an inspiration.
