Julie was the chairperson of Clubsport Stirling(CSS) for over 6 years, being involved with this volunteer body for over 20 years. Her general love of sport, hockey, golf and curling in particular got her first involved as a volunteer on what was then the Stirling Sports Council. She retired as the chair this year to become more involved in her local community. In her time at CSS she has inspired many to become involved in their local sports clubs and communities. She constantly asked us to look at the support we were providing to clubs, how could we make it better, how could we get more people active. Following the Dunblane tragedy she was instrumental in developing our Charter mark for sports clubs, helping to ensure that our clubs operated a safe and structured environment for both children and adults. Since then many National Governing Bodies and other sports councils have followed our example and developed their own charter scheme. Julie has also developed strong working relationships with sporting professionals at ActiveStirling and SportScotland. Julie always led from the front and has inspired others to follow and continue the exciting work that she started. Julie firmly believes in supporting local people and clubs so we can have 'more people, more active, more often'. The Management Committee of CSS would like to nominate Julie as recognition for all her years service to Stirling and sport.
