Joe's nomination story

It gives me the greatest pleasure and pride to nominate my 12 yr old son, Joe. Joe is a member of Fife Athletics Club and me, his sister and he train twice a week in Cupar and St Andrews (West Sands Beach). He has run competitively for quite a few years now and was running 10km races in under an hour when he was 9 and 10 years old in Albuquerque, New Mexico (USA) where we were stationed wit the RAF. He loves running and his dream is to one day run for Team GB in a long distance events - probably Marathon - so we have started training already :). He loves running and we recently had great fun running in the Chariots of Fire (www.Chariots2011.co.uk) race along West Sands Beach, St Andrews as it was the 30th anniversary of the film. He was runner no. 39 and today there was a picture of him in our local paper as he and his running friend both dressed up like the 1924 Olympian runners from the movie!! It would be a dream come true for Joe to carry the torch along West Sands and maybe even onto the Old Course although I am keeping this request a secret from him. Come what may, I'm so proud of my boy - because he tries so hard and running has turned him into a great sportsman, made good friends, improved his academics and fitness, helped him to acquire a good sense of sportsmanship, but above else, gets him away from his X-box for a few hours a week!!!! Yours hopefully!! Sue Forrester and Beth Forrester (Joe's Mum and painful sister)
