Jonny's nomination story

He is a remarkable young man who was diagnosed with retinoblastoma (cancer of the eyes) at the age of 3 months. Despite having one eye removed and having treatment for tumours in his remaining eye, with over 50 anaesthetics before he was 10 years old, he just lives a completely normal life. When he was younger, despite never wanting any fuss or special treatment because of his illness, he always had a smile for the reporters who featured the family's fund raising efforts in the local paper. He raised over £50,000 for the Childhood Eye Cancer Trust. He is a keen skier, has a golf handicap of 11, is one of the junior Vice Captains at High Legh Park Golf Club. He regularly plays for both junior and senior teams. Jonny came to me for help when applying for his provisional driving licence. He now has it and is taking driving lessons like any other teenager his age. An amazing young man.
