Jonathan's nomination story

Jonathan is making a huge difference in the lives of many in our community. His role with the Charity RNIB, Royal National Institute of Blind People as Community Vision Coordinator is one which he carries out with deep commitment & desire for excellence. His role leads him to individuals who are either blind or partial sighted in Coleraine, Ballycastle & Ballymoney Council Areas. He works with these individuals to provide emotional support, encourage confidence & mainly to help with rehabilitation with integration into our community. Jonathan also teaches visual awareness training to others, aiming to make others aware of blind & partial sighted individuals needs & therefore aiding their integration process. Jonathan has set up & piloted a new course called 'Community Connections', an 8 session programme which specifically helps newly diagnosed individuals with partial/full sight loss connect with their local serves in order to end exclusion & increase independence. Jonathan is vital link to so many individuals that would otherwise be marginalised & lack connection with the community. He has taken on a degree course in counselling. He has identified a need with individuals that need more support to come to terms with & rehabilitate after sight loss. He has a desire to see individuals receive the respect they deserve in our community & to believe in their own ability. I would love for him to have this opportunity to represent our local community which he serves so well.
