In 1978 Ian discovered a lack of sporting opportunity for youngsters in the town of Bourne and with the support of parents brought together 35 children. He gave them regular training and started a junior football team called Bourne Head Rangers. The benefits of discipline, sport and social activities led to character building as Ian had intended. Over the years with his enthusiastic input the Bourne Juniors has grown so there are now 270 children and 15 teams from under 7's to under 16's including boys and girls. Changing rooms were built some years ago. Ian received an award for dedication to football and the club now has a Charter Standard to work in the community and provide coaching in the schools. He continued with this voluntary work 33 years on, is an inspiration to all and surely what the Big Society is all about.
