John's nomination story

My son Finn has Cystic Fibrosis. Since his birth in 1996, my dad, John Ryan, has raised thousands of pounds for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust through car boot sales and street collections. Dad is 82 but he will still stand for hours with a collecting box to raise money so that the CF Trust can fund research into better treatment for people suffering from Cystic Fibrosis. In addition to raising money, dad learned when Finn was little how to carry out the physiotherapy which Finn has to have twice daily to keep his lungs clear. Dad makes an hour-long journey every week to visit Finn and never leaves without doing the physio. Finn also has Aspergers Syndrome and dad came along to Finn's Statement Review Meeting a couple of years ago because he wanted to know how Finn was doing at school. He takes Finn out for special days like the Suffolk Show and Bentwaters Air Show. What an amazing Grandad!
