John has spent his lifetime in the pursuit of encouraging local communities to become actively involved in sport. He is Chairman of Waveney Gymnastics Club, Lowestoft, Chairman of the local CSN, Active Waveney Sports Partnership as well a governor for two local schools. He started the Waveney Gymnastics Club in 1976 based at a local school, and was the driving force behind a successful National Lottery bid for £1.4 million, which saw the club move to purpose built premises in November 2002. The club has since gone from strength to strength and John is actively involved both as Chairman and as a coach, dedicating a large portion of his time to helping coach special needs classes and competition groups, producing National Veterans Champions. He also sits on the Men's Technical Committee and is a qualified judge and will often be found at competitions around the country. John has also coached local football teams and was once the coach for Terry Butcher at the beginning of his career in Lowestoft. He is also the Captain of the Senior Golf Team at Rookery Park and helps to organise tournaments and fixtures. John has been a dedicated volunteer in sport for many years and contributes and supports enormously all projects through his role of Chairman of Active Waveney, which aim to encourage participation and enjoyment of sport. Through his dedication John has inspired many thousands of youngsters into sport. He is also the Captain of Rookery Park Golf Club, previously Senior Captain, and helps to organise tournaments and fixtures.
