John Knight

John has been the Secretary and driving force behind Nottinghamshire Schools' Athletics for more than 30 years. He has been instrumental in bringing the English Schools' Track and Field Championships and Cross-Country Championships to Nottinghamshire on FIVE different occasions, ensuring a high profile across the country and earning huge respect within the county for his drive, enthusiasm and organisational skills. Although now retired from teaching, his involvement in athletics seems to have increased further, most notably and recently as Press Officer for the English Schools' Athletics Association.

In the middle of organising the 2011 County Track and Field Championships, and only a few days after his 70th birthday, John had a massive stroke. However, only a few weeks afterwards and with huge support from his wife Christine, John has shown enormous determination and is already recovering well. Athletics has undoubtedly been his motivation. He is an inspiration to all who know him. Although a very modest person, he would be hugely honoured to be selected to be one of the Olympic Torch bearers.
