John's nomination story

I would like to nominate my father, as he is a truly inspirational person to me. He has been running marathons since 1998, he completed his first in Dublin, to date he has trained for and completed 42 marathons all over the world including London, New York, and Boston and is currently training for his 43rd this August. All of this to raising thousands of pounds for the RNLI, dedicating himself to endless amounts of training, pushing himself above and beyond his limits. Not only does he raise money for the RNLI but he also raises support and awareness for it too. As a local GP in town for over 20 years he gains an incredible amount of support and encouragement from his many patients, who all sponsor him so generously every year. Some have even become like his trainer letting him know if they haven't seen him out running enough, this then spurs him on even more!! His support for the RNLI does not end there; he has been a member of the local lifeboat for many years and is also Chairman of the Lifeboat committee, and The Lifeboat Station Medical Officer and Advisor to the RNLI in Wales. In May of this year I was very proud to be present with our family to see him be presented with the town's Coat of Arms and was a personal request from the town Mayor. His marathon running has inspired me and was very proud to completed my first marathon with him in 2001 and have been doing so ever since. I know he would be truly honoured to be part of the London 2012 Torch Relay!!
