John's nomination story

I first came across John's work to develop in-line skating back in 1983/4 and John is still dedicating what seems to be his whole life to the sport over 25 years later..

In those early days John had young and old Skating round the perimeter of an allweather astro/track and with very limited resources was producing high performing skaters. John has gone on to develop the Birminghamwheels Roller Skating Club and invested much of his own time and money into developing an in-line skating arena at the Birmingham Wheels park. The Club has gone on to be one of the largest and most successful in-line skating clubs in the UK and one look at the images on the club website (www.birminghamwheelsrsc.net) will show how effective John (and the many volunteers he has developed) are at engaging Birimngham's richly diverse communities. John continues to provide quality sporting opportunities for individuals and in areas of the city that are typically under-represented in sport. Being a Torchbearer would be just recognition for all his excellent hard work.
