John's nomination story

John has worked in sport for a number of years, with a focus on sport for development in very challenging communities. An example of the types of communities with which he has worked and made a real difference to, are Inner-City Birmingham and also with Visual Impaired children across the Midlands. He has followed up his initial grass roots development focus, by now working across the West Midlands for sported., giving him an opportunity to work with and make a difference to a wider variety of challenging and deprived organisations and communities. Outside of work John has volunteered in sport for a number of years and has been involved in the development of a number of new visually impaired cricket clubs. He is currently assisting fundraising for a playschool for children with profound disabilities and the renovation of a community hall in his local area. Whilst it isn't something that John likes to shout about, he has just returned to work, after 3 months on the sidelines. Unfortunately John ended up needing surgery and now has an' Ileostomy'. Following this operation and recuperation period, John has returned to full time work and has also recently started volunteering in a fundraising capacity again with a small national charity called the 'Ostomy Lifestyle'. This Charity is close to John's heart, as by raising funding for this Charity he hopes that it will provide others with a better support and advice network than was available to him.
