John's nomination story

At 18 (40yrs ago) my husband had a mobotrbike accident which severed thenerves at his neck making his left arm useless. He was told to wait a couple of years to see if the nerves healed but unfortunately they didnt and he had the arm amputated. About 19yrs ago for a bet John started to play golf, with one arm, obviously. It wasnt easy, but he fell in love with the game even though he could only play with multi handed people. At the time he worked as a civi for the Army and one of the cook Sgts showed him an article about the Society of One Armed Golfers. John joined the Society and with his mate/caddy Cahal he attended his first World Championship in Seaford, Sussex in 1993. John and I dated in 1976/7 but lost contact but before he went to Seaford wrote into GMTV looking for sponsorship and I heard his letter being read out and so we meet up in Seaford and three yrs later married. We even went to a World Championship for our honeymoon with his caddy in 1996. Over the years his golf improved to a 16 handicap but sadly through wear and tear his arm has deteriorated and he had a heart attack 5yrs ago, but still goes out there and this year at the World Championship in Trim had his best year yet winning four trophies. He is one of the original members of Antrim Golf Club and the first and only member to have held the post of both Captain and President. Although always in pain from phantom pains he never gives in and always faces the world with a smile. He's my champion.
