John Bretherick

John, as Secretary of Salts Tennis Club, has turned around the fortunes of the club over the past 5 years. Our facilities were poor, membership had dwindled and junior tennis participation was minimal. But thanks mainly to his efforts, our club has been turned around and this has been recognised with: Yorkshire LTA Club of the Year: 2008 YLTA Volunteer of the Year: 2008 John personally has been nominated and made top 4 finalists of LTA volunteer of the year award in 2009 and most amazingly of all: LTA Club of the Year: 2010. For a small(ish) club in N. Bradford to win LTA club of the year against some large Southern tennis clubs is surely a staggering achievement. As well as this, John has been raising money for cancer charities including: 2010 Great North Run, over £1,000 raised for Yorkshire Cancer Research 2011 Towpath Challenge, cycled 127 miles of the Leeds to Liverpool canal in a day for Sue Ryder care home (Manorlands), raised over £1,000 I think John's case to be a torchbearer is a compelling one.
