John's nomination story

Through BP's relationship with Maggie's Cancer Care, BP is proud to nominate John Bonthrone. Since 2008, using Maggie's help, in addition to dedicated family support and huge personal resilience and determination, John has fought an inspirational battle with the diagnosis, treatment and recovery from Osteosarchoma, a form of bone cancer. The severity of major life threatening operations to remove a massive tumour from his spine and ribs left John unable to walk. His resolve to recover has meant not only that he has learnt to walk again but has returned to full time work; has just taken out gym membership; and has recently got back on his Ducati. John embodies the Olympic values of excellence, friendship and respect - he is now fully committed to fundraising for Maggie's Aberdeen and has helped other individuals and families going through cancer to better understand their situation and learn to cope and access support.
