Jodie's nomination story

Jodie is our wonderful, thoughtful, caring daughter. Both Jodie and her brother, Jacob, were born with retinoblastoma ( eye cancer ), inherited from their father, Adrian. They both endured chemotherapy and laser treatment for the first 6 months of their lives. They are both extremely caring children and have adjusted well to limited vision in their right eyes. Jodie has been a sports captain at her school for the last 3 years, being nominated from pupils and staff alike. She is due to pick up an award for PE at the schools awards evening in 2 weeks time. She is also a young ambassador for the Olympics 2012. A couple of months ago Jodie organised a fundraising evening for CHECT ( Childhood eye cancer trust ) getting her very musical friends to give their time to perform at the concert. Jodie organised the whole event and raised hundreds of pounds. It was an extremely enjoyable night and everyone wants to do it again soon! Jodie also helps at local swimming classes where she gains the trust of very young swimmers, from the age of just a few months to 6/7 year olds. She has been on courses to develop her skills in this field and is a very accomplished swimmer herself! Jodie always puts others first, is hugely popular and has massive respect for friends, teachers and family members - whatever their age! I have been a sports captain for 4 years, not 3. I picked up the overall PE award out of the whole school. Also swimmers up to the age of 9/10. I have also passed several leadership courses through school for different sports. i.e aerobics, golf.
