Jo's nomination story

Jo is a volunteer fencing coach with the University of Ulster fencing club at the coleraine campus.  She gives up 3 hours every week to coach other students.  She is a member of the NI Fencing committee and helps organise competitions through northern ireland and has been instrumental in setting up a competition prize fund enabling the most promising fencers to gain invaluable financial support for the coming years.  She is a very active member of the fencing community and without the support and hours that Jo donates the sport would wouldn`t have the membership and support from local sports development officers. She also sings in her local church choir, regularly entertaining the community by going into care homes to sing to the residents that are unable to attend church.  She is an active fundraiser for her local Lions Club helping to run events during their annual fund raising carnival.  She is also helps the local fishing club with conservation work on the local lakes. Along side studying, Jo is also the sole carer for her mother after she unfortunately suffered a stroke. Jo is a remarkable young woman and readily gives of her time to help others, be it through her coaching experience or her fundraising skills to practical help with conservation work.
