Joanne's nomination story

Joanne Hellowell volunteers as a Brownie leader and for her community Alzheimer's Society.

The Brownies gives young people opportunities to learn new skills and build their confidence. This is especially important in more vulnerable areas such as Joannes pack.

She's organised a weekend camp, including raising funds and recently supported one of the pack who has diabetes by enhancing her first aid training. This has inspired her brownies to all work for and achieve their first aid badge. Not content with leading her own pack she's supported the divisional team in recruiting 3 new leaders. This has prevented a Brownie and a Rainbow unit closing. The divisional commissioner has been so impressed she's been asked to manage PR for the hole division!

Joanne also gives her time and engery to support The Alzheimer's Society.

The society provides information, advice and support to families affected by Alzheimer's. Joanne volunteers at her community office each Friday, supporting them with admin, fundraising and raising awareness in her community. They hold information stands alongside events and attend any open days in local care homes to provide information and advice.

Joanne Makes a Difference by using her energy and commitment to lead her local Brownie pack and drive awareness and fundraising for The Alzheimers Society - providing vital support and advice to people affected.
