Joanne's nomination story

After a close friend's son was born disabled, Joanne decided that her new year's resolution for 2010 would be to give something back and try to raise as much money as possible for the Eden Valley Hospice in Carlisle who gives care to her friend's child and so many other people. It costs £4,000 a day just to open the doors and they look after severely disabled people as well as the terminally ill, so at some point in our lives directly or indirectly we know someone who needs that support. With this in mind Joanne decided to set herself a six month challenge where she would complete the following events: Keswick 1/2 marathon - 1hr 48; National 3 Peaks - 22hr 28; Hadrian's Wall Walk (84 mile) - 3 1/2 days; Coast 2 Coast Bike Ride (140 mile) - 2 days; Derwentwater (14km Trail Race) - 1.25hrs; Great North Run (1/2 Marathon) - 1.49hrs; Cumbrian Run (1/2 Marathon) - 1.45hrs. She was successful in completing all of the challenges and raised almost £2,300. This not only shows a huge level of self discipline and determination but also extreme kindness and generosity.
