Jo's nomination story

Joanne is a single mother and juggles all of the things that entails alongside having started her own business in reflexology. Her son was born prematurely and this led her to start learning about reflexology for babies as well as baby massage. This means that she helps to train new mothers to be able to do this to their own babies and this helps with both their health and bonding. She is a very active member of the school parents association giving up a great deal of her time to organise events to raise money for the school. Her imagination and tenacity help where funds are low and she is a vital part of the community. Alongside this she gives up time every week to work with paitents at the Mary Stevens Hospice to help them through this most difficult time. She attends the hospice without fail and has also just completed a charity day where she intended to raise money to buy treatment equipment for the hospice. Not only did she exceed the target she had set but she managed to secure a free donation of equipment as well. When she was unable to fit all the clients that she was treating in during the first charity day she cleared her diary the following weekend and made sure that they were treated too. She very much deserves the opportunity to be considered as a torch bearer and I know that her 8 year old son would be hugely proud of her taking part in next summers Olympic celebrations.
