Jen is a truly inspirational person, who I am honoured to call my friend and colleague. In 2004, only 13 weeks after she got married, her husband Kieron was killed in an industrial accident at work. Since then, despite having a full time job as a matron in the NHS, she has produced an educational DVD based on her own personal experiences, to highlight the importance of health and safety in the workplace. This DVD is shown to construction workers as part of their training, and to date, thousands of workers have seen this moving DVD both in the UK and further afield. In addition, since 2010 she has been an avid supporter of, and fundraiser for 'The Lighthouse Club', a charity devoted to supporting workers and the families of those injured or killed in construction accidents. To date, she has raised over £200,000 to support this worthwhile cause. Her most recent fundraising efforts include completing the London Marathon, and a reception at the Savoy Hotel to launch her limited edition 'Calendar Girls' style calendar. I have never met such an inspirational person, and I am so proud of her.
