Jemina has battled through a sucession of illnesses during her teenage years including IIH and when she was 16 Hodgkins Lymphona (cancer of the lymph glands, She was diagnosed shortly after coming to terms with her aunty, who she was very close to, dying of cancer. She went through a course of Chemo and medication and is now in remission though still having to deal with the side effects of the steriods she had to take. Thoughout all her suffering she remained cheerful and resolute and was an inspiration to all her family and friends in how she dealt with her illness. When she had recovered she went back to college to finish her GCSEs as she missed her final year at college when ill. She won the prize for Health and Social Studies at which she top marked with an A* in her exam. She is now studying for a H&S Diploma and wants to become a Social Worker councilling teenagers with cancer. She talks to other teenager cance sufferers on her Facebook page helping them to come to terms with the diesease and provide support based on her own experiences. She would love to carry the torch as close as possible to the University Hospital in Cardiff where she was treated as a tribute to the wonderful staff there who looked after her and to show that with spirit and belief cancer can be beaten - for Jemina this was her gold medal event.I got diagnosed when i was 15, not 16.
