Jason's nomination story

JD has been a keen sportsman throughout his life, he broke his back (at age 23) in a mountain bike accident after only doing 2 running races (London Marathon and the Highworth 10k). He used running and fitness as a rehabilitation and wanted to prove to himself that he could still do physical things. He was therefore chuffed to bits to become the county steeplechase champion. JD is a true inspiration to any budding athlete, be it hosting weekly runs for beginners and advanced groups at Highworth Running Club (Wiltshire), timed track events, cross country races and orienteering. He hosts a running club at work (also organising inter company and local company events) and is often seen stopwatch and clipboard in hand in torrential rain around the streets and fields of Swindon. He has helped many people (including me!) to train for the London Marathon, offering constant support from the very first steps through build up races to the big day. It's not about the 'win at all costs', it's about being there, setting and achieving your goals. JD would be a true ambassador for sports for everyone and I believe a worthy Torch Bearer.
