Jamie's nomination story

Jamie Weller, a senior tax manager in Nottingham is a remarkable man. What makes him so remarkable is that is he is registered blind. Losing his eyesight whilst in the Royal Navy, aged 20 left him with complete loss of central vision and only some peripheral vision.

After rebuilding his life and getting a degree he started training at Deloitte. He became the first blind qualified member of the Institute of Tax.

He presents to clients by memorising the entire presentation and regularly teaches tax students on Deloitte courses. He acts pro bono as a trustee for the charity, Blind Veterans UK which helped him when he left the Navy.

He defies stereotypes about blindness and to people's amazement upon meeting him, he is unfazed by his lack of sight. What makes him truly inspirational is his amazing positive attitude, he is determined not to let his blindness undermine his ambitions.
