Jamie Piekarz

Jamie has spent a lot of her time and effort volunteering with Globe Aware, assisting care workers with orphaned children in Peru and also participated in the instruction and care of orphans at the Peace Matunda orphanage in Tanzania. Her deep concern for women's welfare has resulted in her working with disadvantaged women in the southern region of Mali. She has been instrumental in connecting these women with an organization whose focus is raising awareness of women's rights and giving them a voice to discuss matters important to them and their children. She also maintains an ongoing relationship with a Ghanaian organization, DIVOG, whereby she brings groups of participants from Canada to help construct schools with the local villages in the Volta region of Ghana. This effort requires prior fundraising in order to purchase the construction materials and building equipment. So far, two schools have been built and a third one will be underway in the fall of 2012.
