(The Peel Group) We at The Peel Group are nominating 40 year old James Whittaker. In September 2088 father of three, achieved a world first by swimming the entire 36 mile length of the Manchester Slip Canal raising over £150,000 for Manchester's New Children's Hospital appeal and has been officially recognised for his contribution. Peels total contribution to the appeal equated to £1,300,000. The merkey waters of the Canal is almost double the distance of the English Channel. It took James 19 hours to complete the swim. James who has tackled many sporting challenges including Iron Man races, marathons, climbing Kilimanjaro and the Etape De Tour has raised tens of thousands of pounds for various charities in the process. In partnership with his swim coach he is now inspiring and training thousands of swimmers across the North West to tackle open water swims in safe locations in Manchester and Cheshire.
