James's nomination story

One might imagine that having competed against the legendary Lord Coe or Seb as he was at the time and the outstanding Steve Ovett, one might have given up running by the age of 20, however I have always been inspired by track and field athletics and see the Olympics as the ultimate sporting event. So inspired indeed that I have continued to compete for club, county and region, achieving a record Southern League points total whilst competing for Harrow Athletics Club. I still compete now, at the tender age of 56. In addition to my competitive athletics I have also coached and helped numerous young athletes throughout my career, particularly helping Sir William Borlase Grammar School (my son and daughter's school) to achieve some best ever results at District Sports.
