Jamie's nomination story

Jamie Henderson is a 17 year old who lives in Thurso, the most northerly town in the U.K. Jamie is a remarkable young man and deserves to be an Olympic Torch Bearer. Living up north has its drawbacks but undeterred Jamie has recently managed to climb to the top of the Scottish rankings in the under 19's in his sport of squash. He has been playing squash for only six years and has made a huge impact within the Scottish junior circuit. His other achievements include being County Champion in 2010, finalist in the East of Scotland, semi- finalist in the Scottish Championships and has represented Scotland in Sweden, The Czech Republic and Wales during last season. He travels hundreds of miles to compete/train each year. Long hours are endured in car travel, early mornings and arriving home into the small hours but Jamie never complains or grumbles as he realises that for him to fulfil his ambition this has to be done.

Jamie attends the Scottish Squash Academy at Heriot Watt in Edinburgh for monthly coaching and he is also a member of The Highland Institute of Sport who help him out greatly with various aspects of his sport.

He is such a down to earth young man and has a very pleasant manner. The juniors at Thurso Squash Club look up to him and he repays them by giving up his free time to help coach them.

Jamie would be a very worthy candidate from the Highlands so please consider him. CR
