I'm nominating my Grandad as someone I believe has truly gone the extra mile for others in the local and sporting community for his entire life. He was a founder member of Eton Athletic Club in 1949, becoming Chairman of what became Windsor & Eton Athletic Club, 1960. Chairman for 40 years until 2000, he stepped down, only to be appointed President of now Windsor, Slough, Eton & Hounslow. He's overseen various mergers over 62 years enabling it to become one of the leading clubs in the country, based at state of the art Thames Valley Athletics Centre, Eton. At 87 he is still taking an active role as both President and, occasionally, as a judge at home matches. My Grandad was also Chairman of Winkfield Parish Council for 20+ years and despite stepping down from this role in his early 80's, has just been elected for a further term at age 87. Possibly one of the oldest Parish Chairmen in service and someone who has had an invaluable impact on his local community over the years. On top of this he inspired myself and my siblings to get involved in sport from a young age and still regularly travels to watch us play National League hockey. An incredible man, loving and devoted grandad with a great sense of humour who has dedicated a huge amount of his life to the local and sporting community. An inspiration and role model to so many.
