James's nomination story

James has triumphed through a whole range of family tragedies leaving him orphaned with very limited remaining family. Much of James' childhood has been occupied with caring for adults; first his father and then his grandmother. James and his younger brother ( also nominated) were voluntarily taken into the care of the local authority. The brothers are now placed with permanent foster carers James was supported by Carlisle Young Carers and is actively involved in promoting their aims. This includes being consulted by the NHS regarding attitudes to mental health, delivering awareness presentations to trainee social workers about young carers, delivering similar presentations to trainee teachers, and similar presentations again to visitors from Eastern European countries. James also engaged with the Carlisle MP, John Stevenson, to talk with him about the issues facing carers. James has taken an active role in school councils; at the Richard Rose Central Academy. And is actively engaged in the school orchestra and in dance productions, Very recently, James has been elected as the Vice Chair Carlisle's Youth Council, . James is a caring, sensitive young person whose personal experiences have shaped his behaviours. James is aware of the needs of others and works well with the profoundly disabled boy who is in placement with James and His brother. James continues to support his friends through difficult family times.
