James's nomination story

James is one of a kind. His day job is working with special needs children where his enthusiasm, inspiration, and positive approach are highly successful. Working with London Children`s Practice, James is constructing training programmes for teachers in the UK and Overseas. Additionally, working with his sister, James has initiated Head Neck and Throat, a cancer support Charity (HNT Cancer Support). James is also an Assistant District Commissioner (Scouts) with a `hands on` approach. He has orchestrated fundraising activities (£100,000+ over 12 years) to enable, for example, a group of Explorer Scouts to travel to The Gambia and build a school for the local community. He supports Demelza House, Hospice for children, raising funds and undertaking maintenance. James also works with Scouts in The Gambia and Sri Lanka. His unique style of leadership balances coaching/mentoring, helping others and teamwork-building with self reliance and has developed the abilities of numerous generations thereby establishing values. James` blend of enthusiasm, understanding and encouragement with strict discipline, courtesy and fun encourages great respect and inspires participation in inter-Scout competitions and sports activities. James has spent a great deal of his life carrying a torch for other people; carrying the Olympic torch would recognise his considerable contribution to local, regional and international communities.
