Ilan is a giant with a very soft heart! He is 6'7 and turned 16 last month. His passion is rugby! He breaths the sport and is a vivid Wales supporter. What makes Ilan special is the love, care and compassion he shows towards the sport. His father, Bryan, was paralysed from the neck down in a rugby match in April 2007 but this has not deterred Ilan from playing the game. He has captained Bala under 16's rugby team and has also captained the school team. He is respected within the rugby community for his positive outlook on the sport is inspirational. He passed a referee's course last year at 15 years of age...despite not being allowed under the rules and regulations to referee until 16. This Autumn he is going on a coaching course. Every Tuesday night he attends at our rugby club where he helps to coach the younger sides, then he trains with his team and thereafter stays to train with the adult team. He works at the local pizzeria and also helps to care for his father who has severe and complex care needs. He makes a 190 mile round trip every weekend to visit his father who has been hospitalised for the past 18 months. Ilan is respected by all his peers and is always ready to give a help in hand to anyone. He has never complained about his situation and works hard at home and at school. He is an inspiration to us all and always thrives to do his personal best at anything. If anyone deserves to be a torch bearer...then it is Ilan. He has achieved so much.
