Carrying the Flame on
Ian's nomination story

My father in law is 58 and was born in Lincoln. He competed for Lincolnshire as a youth in Football and Athletics. Subsequently he taught for 35 years as a PE teacher at William Farr School, Welton. He has taken been involved in Lincol Schools Football Association for 15 years and was Chairman and Secretary of Lincolnshire Schools Athletics for 20 years. In addition to this he has run a wide variety of after-school sports clubs throughout his career. Through these he has supported and encouraged and inspired thousands of young people to become involved in sport., and given hours of his own time for others.

In an article in his school's magazine , he was described as 'a legend' and to mark this the school named two prestigious atletics awards after him. Which was such an honour and a tribute to his comittment.

He is still actively involved in sport . To carry the torch would be like 'the icing on the cake' and would be a great honour and I know a poular decision from his colleagues and students.
