Ian's nomination story

IAN TIPPEN I would like to nominate Ian Tippen from Wakefield, West Yorkshire to be an Olympic Torch Carrier. He has been a sportsman all his life and has run 98 marathons and one 30-mile race. He will be running in the Berlin Marathon in September 2011 and complete his 100th Marathon in October in Amsterdam. He has served 22 years in the Army playing high class Athletics, Cricket, Tennis, Badminton, Ten Pin bowling, Snooker and Rugby Union. He has raised many funds for a variety of charities and his participation in this fantastic build up to the Olympic Games will help raise funds for "Help the Heroes". Ian has given a great deal of time visiting residents at the Leonard Cheshire homes at Wetherby and Harrogate. He does lots of voluntary work, which includes 18 years as Secretary/Treasurer of the Heavy Woollen District Rabbits league. He is also president of the Combined Services Association in Wakefield. At the age of 64 he is so fit - he is an inspiration for young people to take up sport.
