Ian's nomination story

Ian - a truly inspirational man - throughout his life has cared for others and achieved amazing feats. First voluntary work aged 14 - Medway Hospital, Kent. For 16 years - Samaritan volunteer - resident social worker 1987 to 1996 when he founded the - www.millershomesforchildren.org - a wonderful organisation dedicated to caring for vulnerable/abused children. Over 3000 children have been in Ian's compassionate care. Most recent mission - to establish friendship/mutual support links between Childrens Homes on every continent with Millers UK at the centre so he founded F.I.N.C.H. - http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=571523098#!/home.php?sk=group 143366345734667&ap=1 Fantastic father, single parent caring for 2 daughters ( 9 and 7), owns/runs a busy B/B ( Old Water View, Patterdale) - established several local businesses, a school governor - a Penrith Rotarian - inspires and is respected by all his staff, friends and guests for whom he cares greatly - endless work in the community. Long distance walker- achieved most such walks in UK including 1100miles E2E in 64 days. Severely broke his leg - Appalachian Trail - USA - nevertheless raised over £9000 for BBC Children in Need! August 2011 will have completed C2C Walk 3 times - last with his daughter Rachael (7) raising money for Patterdale School/Mountain Rescue Team. Daughter Catherine's10th Birthday - 21:6:2012 - Carlisle to Bowness on Windermere Torchbearing Day - please make it a special day for all of them!
