Ian's nomination story

I am nominating Ian on behalf of the Sytner Nottingham Service Department as he has inspired us all. Ian decided it was the right time in his life to start getting fit and at the age of 44 he really wanted to run the London Marathon to raise money for Children's Leukaemia. Ian hadn`t done any running before so he started off by running in his lunch time, encouraged by our Dealer Accountant. This was May 2010 by September 2010 he decided it was time to run the Nott'm Half Marathon, which he completed. Ian continued to train at lunchtime, evenings and weekends - any spare time he could find, along with collecting all his sponsors for the London Marathon. On Sunday 17 April 2011, our Ian ran the London Marathon in 4hrs 10mins, and raised £1,900 for Children's Leukaemia! We were all cheering Ian on, and he truly has inspired all of us. Ian has gone on to compete in several more local marathons since the London Marathon, and is improving all the time. He has already registered for next year and is eagerly waiting to see if he gets a place to run again for charity. We all wanted Ian to do really well but didn`t expect this much from him in such a short time at his age. We do hope you will give Ian a chance to carry the Olympic Flame as we all know he truly deserves it. Thank you again for your time, Carol and the Sytner Nottingham Service Team.
