Ian has worked as a volunteer in sport in Wiltshire for over twenty years. He held a pivotal role in Swindon School of Gymnastics for many years - coach, judge, mentor and club chairman. More recently he has been pro-active in promoting all sports within Swindon. As Chair of the Swindon Sports Forum, he encourages clubs and societies to work together to enhance sport and leisure activities at local grass roots level. He has worked tirelessly with many voluntary and local authority personnel to improve and provide facilities. He constantly strives to raise the profile of local sports clubs and creates opportunities for clubs to liaise with each other. Ian is a lifelong sports fan, especially the Olympics, which he regards as the ultimate sporting success. It would be a real honour and thrill for him to carry the torch in the South West and a chance for the local clubs to recognise the significance of his work.
