Carrying the Flame on
Ian's nomination story

After the sudden death of 23-month old Daniel in 2009, his parents Ian and Claire set up a charitable trust. The trust was established in his memory to help others along the personal road of grief and to offer opportunities for local children to just have fun. The trust provides Memory Boxes through local health professionals and bereavement charities to recently bereaved parents and to children who lose parents to help preserve memories and keepsakes of those special people. The trust also arranges trips and activities for local children and groups, allowing the children to develop friendship bonds and happy memories of their own. Ian and Claire are an inspiration to the people in their village and beyond. They have turned the grief of losing their son into a wonderful initiative that both celebrates the life of Daniel and provides hope and relief for others. They recently ran a local half-marathon to raise funds and awareness of the trust. They are truly deserving of carrying the Olympic torch. Our new goal is to offer these boxes to every childrens hospice/ Childrens hospitals in the UK by the end of 2012.
