Hilary's nomination story

Hilary has worked tirelessly as a Social Worker for many years and since retiring still works in social care as a consultant.  She is an inspiration and a wonderful role model.  She never ceases to amaze me with her warmth, compassion and her spirit.  She took up running a few years ago to keep herself fit.  She joined a Southampton Group called 'The Running Sisters'. It's a running group made up solely of women - you can be at any level to join the club and as members progress they start to train the new people who join.  Hilary started off not being able to run at all and now after a few years of training she regularly takes part in charity runs and half-marathons.  She has become the clubs' secretary and also one of its trainers.  The group isn't just about running though, it's also a meeting place for women from all over the borough where they can spend time with other women and share their life experiences and make new friends.   Hilary hasn't stopped at running; she has also participated in events like the 'Big Swim' in London - a massive open water swim, and she recently climbed the Welsh mountains!
