Hilary is an inspirational person because she gets the best value out of every 24 hours, full of energy yet pushing herself to the limit in the three areas of her family, her sporting interests and her career. As she approaches 50 years old, she skilfully takes charge of her three children as a single parent who she helps in a thorough manner with their schooling and assisting her middle son in raising money for his world challenge to Borneo by running car washes, cake sales and the like. As a past representative of GB at canoe polo, she still plays at club level in Yorkshire, putting back into the game by taking her turn to organise matches and referee. She also officiates in the local youth basketball league, in which her eldest son plays. Finally, as a qualified nurse, she manages a department at York District Hospital and somehow squeezes in studying for a degree! A truly amazing person caring for those who are ill, putting back time into sport and keeping her children on the straight and narrow.
