Helen's nomination story

Inspirational Helen Reece, an outstanding contributor to teaching and fundraising. With great energy, imagination and foresight, Helen organised fun sporting and musical activities supporting school life and worthwhile charities for over 30 years. 1980s as a young teacher in a large comprehensive school, she concentrated on poverty stricken Chad, her amazing 'Challenge for Chad' events, involving the whole community in Eccleston, St Helens, raised £1000s. 1990s as Head of PE, Helen organised legendary fundraising family fun days in deprived Newton le Willows school, her charisma ensuring all staff and students were happy to assist. Sporting day time activities and evening concerts involved staff and pupils. 2000s as Deputy Head Helen fundraised for a new Blackburn school building via sell out sporting and musical events,including her winning a karaoke silver medal! 2008 When Lady Captain of Blackburn golf club, raised £1000s for Derian House, Wigan, children's hospice for the building of a wing for teenagers. 2009 Everyone loves and respects her. Her greatest accolade was, upon retirement, being invited to meet the Queen at a royal garden party. 2011 since retirement Helen runs a community aerobics class on a voluntary basis, when she discovered the organiser had ovarian cancer she took over and insists all payments go to that organiser. Helen runs every day and would be a capable, worthy Olympic torch bearer encapsulating all the values of the Olympic movement.
