Helen is a trustee, the company secretary and a volunteer for Street Angels - a recognised initiative that aims to make communities a safer place to be. Helen patrols the streets of Halifax Town Centre between 9pm & 3am on Fridays & Saturdays helping anyone needing assistance. This can involve giving directions, providing First Aid, calling for police support, asking CCTV to monitor a situation or supporting Door Staff with incidents. The work Helen and the Street Angels team has done has made a significant difference in reducing crime in the area. Crime has been significantly reduced within Halifax, notably violent crime and Sexual Assaults.
The street angels scheme is one of those initiatives that a great many people would think that's a good idea but would never in a million years volunteer for...... Helen IS one of those volunteers and takes a leading role in delivering a real difference in the local community. Without Helen and people like her the world would be a far worse place
Thousands of people have received help and assistance - including elderly people leaving the theatre; young people who have become vulnerable in the town; those who are homeless; those who have had a few too many to drink and need a helping hand; visitors who need direction; people in need of basic first aid but not a trip to A&E. Street Angels have also helped many locals through referrals to other agencies (i.e. drug and alcohol abuse).
