Helen's nomination story

Diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009, Helen underwent a double mastectomy, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Following her surgery, she joined a dragon boat team, the Worcester Busters, a team made up of breast cancer survivors, to help with possible lymphodema as a result of the surgery. When diagnosed with secondary cancer in her lungs, and given a one in four chance of survival, she refused to accept it. She has continued working full time, she has paddled with the Great Britain Senior Ladies Team, gaining a silver and bronze medal, and more recently organised a fundraising walk from Hereford to Worcester for herself and 15 friends, on the coldest day of 2010 (they set off in temperatures of -12oC!) raising over £4000 for a local breast cancer charity, The Haven, and the Worcestershire Breast Unit Campaign. She continues to paddle and encourage other women who find themselves in a similar situation.B.C in 2006, Had a lumpectomy then a mastectomy with chemo Secondary cancer in 2009. GB in 2010 and had lymph gland clearance opp 5 days later, then radiotherapy, this finished 3 wks before the walk. I have relaunched Worcester Busters 2011
