Hayden Mills

Hayden commenced his A Level programme in 2008 at Birmingham Metropolitan College. Within a few months he became seriously ill with a brain tumour and had to leave because of the serious nature of his illness. The following year, he was again referred to hospital, and had to have an emergency operation to remove a second cyst which had grown. The side effects of the treatment affected his general health, but he continued to maintain his focus on studying and often came into college, sometimes on his crutches to attend his lessons. He also managed to take part in extra curriculur activities with the Cambridge Business Summer School and fundraising for Birmingham Children's Hospital. He achieved a grade A* in Maths, grade A's in Computing and physics and agrade B in AS Further Maths. Hayden has now gone onto the University of Birmingham to study for a degree in Computer Science.
