Hamish's nomination story

Hamish Swanson demonstrated an inspiring story of friendship and excellence by undertaking a 92 mile sponsored walk along Hardian's wall with his sister, Matilda, this summer. The pair supported each other over the six day trail helping and motivating themselves through torrential rain, painful blisters, aching limbs and a never-ending progression of Pennine crags to reach the final goal at Wallsend. Hamish is a colitis sufferer and wanted to do something to thank the charity Chron's and Colitis UK for help with advice and other support over the past years. Hamish and his sister worked hard to promote their walk and generate sponsorship through giving talks at their local church and publicising the event at school. They managed to raise a fantastic total of £2500 by undertaking this challenge. As part of the BP employee young relative programme, BP is proud to nominate Hamish to be an Olympic torchbearer.
