Gurpal grew up in Southall and Hounslow. In 1982, Gurpal was the first Asian to join the Metropolitan police service from Hounslow borough. He would complete 30 years of service in 2012. He does voluntary work in his spare time thus a role model for many in the community. He fights for equality and justice which has led to several changes in policy being made. His work has been recognised with several awards from the London communities. He gives talks to young people in order to divert them away from crime. Gurpal with the Ministry of Defence organised an exhibition in Hounslow to which the local schools participated in and learnt about the sacrifices made by Asians soldiers. A truly inspirational man who is always doing his best. Gurpal was one of the people mentioned in the CRE book and a local exhibition as making a difference.
