Greg's nomination story

Greg Dobson works at Portree High School in the Isle of Skye and is riding his bike 670 miles to London to raise money for an O'Pair bike and the charity Heart Start. The O'Pair bike is especially adapted for children with disabled needs, the machine allows a wheelchair to be attached to the front to give the user the chance to enjoy a cycling experience. Greg set up a unit to help children with social, emotional and behavioural problems three years ago and has been nominated for a Times Educational award in the Outstanding Community Partnership category after children at the school produced two prizewinning recycling initiatives, the unit recently received an award for enterprise and is currently involved in "Still Running Bikes" an initiative involving the local Police. Old bikes are donated by the community and the unit offer a recycle, maintenance and repair scheme. The children also won a competition to write a film script to work with a professional film maker to make "Ronnie Rubbish" to highlight the need to recycle where possible, the film was premiered to local councillors and parents and was hailed as a great success. Greg will cycle 670 miles to the Hilton Hotel in London to attend the ceremony while raising funds for the two charities. His immense journey starts on Tuesday 28th June 2011, Greg will ride up to 70 miles per day and should arrive in London on time for the ceremony on the 8th July.
